Every change you can make to the F 900 R’s suspension falls into one of the circuits below. Knowing which adjusters you actually have is the first step — there’s no point chasing a high-speed compression fix on a bike that only offers preload.

02How to approach the F 900 R
The F 900 R offers rear rebound plus preload — a partial set, so some fixes have to come from somewhere other than a clicker.
- Use the damping you do have for its primary job, and don't try to make it compensate for the circuit that's missing.
- With limited damping adjustment, tyre pressure and sag carry proportionally more of the setup. Get both exact before you touch anything else.
- If you keep running out of adjustment in one direction, that's a spring rate or oil condition signal — not a reason to wind the clicker to its stop.
03Where to start — the baseline
Whatever the F 900 R offers, the order of operations is always the same. Start from the OEM clicker baseline (count every adjuster from fully closed), set tyre pressures, then set sag before you touch a single damping clicker.
- Tyre pressure first.It moves the chassis more than any clicker. Start from a known cold target — see the track day tyre pressure guide.
- Then sag. On a superbike / sportbike machine, aim for roughly 30–35 mm of front rider sag and 25–30 mm at the rear, then verify against the manual. Full method in the sag guide.

04What you can't tune on the F 900 R
Knowing where the F 900 Rstops adjusting saves more time than any clicker chart. These are the fixes this bike can’t make with a screwdriver — and what to reach for instead:
- No front damping adjustment — fork dive and front-end harshness have to be managed with preload, fork height, spring rate and tyre pressure.
- No rear compression adjuster — manage squat under drive with ride height and preload.
- Single-speed damping circuits — one adjuster covers both rider inputs and sharp bumps, so expect to compromise between the two.
- No front preload adjuster — front ride height is set by fork height in the clamps.
05Match the symptom to the adjuster
On the F 900 R, as on any bike, diagnose by the corner phase where the problem shows up — not the symptom alone. Ordered by what this bike can actually act on:
